Wild success, scientifically proven! I’m in. Here’s a 30 min. video of Marie Forleo interviewing performance coach, Brendon Burchard. and here’s my bullet list of takeaways:
- Clarity – differentiate btw feelings and emotions. Emotions “come up” without our bidding but feelings are interpretations we give to our emotions. Before starting work, make yourself feel centred and in the zone. Literally, say to yourself: “I’m going to feel centred now. I’m going to get myself in the zone.”
- Think something like “I need to do a good job here and I’m motivated by that, not scared.” “Raise” this feeling of motivation. “Raise” “performance necessity.” Interpret fear as energy to ignite and power your best performance or work.
- Talk to yourself in the 3rd or 2nd person. It’s better than talking to yourself in the 1st person; i.e. “Malcolm, you need to do a good job today, etc.” Remember to be grateful.
- Every morning, ask yourself, “What might happen today to trip me up?” This keeps you from being taken by surprise and thrown off track.
- Managing transitions: take a minute to release tension after one task is complete, then set an intention for your next one. Literally, sit for a moment focusing on releasing tension. Then choose an intention for your next hour or however long you intend to spend on your next task.
- Being satisfied doesn’t mean settling. Full engagement, joy and confidence – this is where high performers “come from.” “Strive satisfied.”
- You don’t have happiness and joy, you generate them, constantly.
Frankly, writing is hard emotional work. But I’m going to use these techniques to make it easier and more joyous.
